The Cades Cove Loop Motorcycle Ride makes an outstanding alternate or add-on ride to the Great Smokies Run 441, giving riders a completely different view of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Located on the Tennessee side of the Smokies near Townsend, Cades Cove Loop Road is an 11-mile, one-way paved road that circles a broad mountain valley surrounded by some of the most beautiful peaks in the park. Instead of concentrating on tight mountain curves and high-elevation riding, Cades Cove is a slower, more relaxed motorcycle experience where the scenery, history, wildlife, and Appalachian heritage become the main attractions.

Riders coming from the Great Smokies Run 441 can make Cades Cove part of a longer Smokies adventure by traveling through the Gatlinburg and Sugarlands area and heading west along Little River Road toward the Townsend and Wears Valley, then continuing on Laurel Creek Road into Cades Cove. The ride into the Cove is part of the experience, following wooded mountain roads near the Little River with numerous scenic areas along the way. Once inside Cades Cove, the landscape opens dramatically into green meadows, split-rail fences, historic homesteads, mountain backdrops, and some of the best opportunities in the park to see wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, and black bears.

It is the kind of ride that turns a trip through the Smokies into a full-day motorcycle adventure, with the massive ridgelines of the national park rarely far from view. Scenic roads around the park connect many of the region’s best-known riding areas, including the Tennessee foothills and the mountain roads of western North Carolina.

The Tennessee side of the Black Bear Trail takes riders through the gateway communities surrounding the northern and western edges of the park, where destinations such as Gatlinburg, Wears Valley, Townsend, and the Foothills Parkway provide an excellent mix of mountain scenery and enjoyable riding.
